2009 California Paraeducator Conference
More than 400 paraeducators attended the 12th Annual California Paraeducator Conference in Sacramento, April 2-4. Attendees learned new and innovative teaching techniques from session presenters, as well as catching up with colleagues and meeting new friends.
The conference began with a general session moderated by Association President Rob Feckner. Governmental Relations Representative Steve Henderson explained the current state of the state budget, while humorist Marilyn Grey was later able to get some laughter from the crowd.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell addressed participants at the banquet on Thursday evening. Superintendent O’Connell praised attendees for a job well done and noted that paraeducators are an asset to every school team.
The conference concluded with a general session presented by School Psychologist Richard Lieberman, LAUSD. Lieberman discussed the important role paraeducators play in helping to prevent at-risk youth from harming themselves.
Participants left with new knowledge, new friendships and a renewed feeling of validation for the work they do.
